Officer Andrew Camilleri was killed just before midnight on Christmas Eve as he was patrolling for dangerous drivers on interstate 880 in hayward. He was 33 years old, a father of three. Minutes ago hundreds of chp officers from all over the bay area and around the state gathered outside the chp academy in West Sacramento to pay tribute to the officer. Its unfortunate that his life was taken. His passion was going out doing the job, arresting dui drivers. And he is taken from us by what appears to be a dui driver. The suspect was drunk and stoned. Claiming he was inside a closet in the house, heard gunshots and thought his mother had been shot. The dispatcher heard a scream and then the collar disconnected. Reporter police raced to the home on north front street and ordered everybody out of the house, and thats when officers realized it was all a hoax and there were no hostages. We took them all very seriously, and we will make sure that everyone in particularly in this residence is safe. Police critics said police didnt handle the situation well and the family said at one point the rifle was pointed at the toddlers head. I had to say it was pointed in your direction in case a boogie monster came behind you to protect us but i cant say why they did it because i dont know why somebody would do that.
