MDF to train 10,000 youth in entrepreneurship skills - The Chronicle Online

The 20-seater WC The Minerals Development Fund (MDF) will soon come out with Social Interventions for Mining Affected Communities (SIMAC) to create economic activities for disadvantaged youth in such mining communities. The Administrator of the MDF, Dr. Norris Hammah, who said this at the commissioning of an MDF funded GH¢323,000.00 20-seater water closet (WC) toilet facility with showers at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region, noted that the SIMAC project, when implemented, would benefit, at least, 10,000 youth in identified mining communities. Dr Norris Hammah addressing the gathering Dr. Hammah said the SIMAC project would increase incomes and savings, and create new job opportunities for the youth, thereby providing them an alternate source of livelihoods and deter them from engaging in illegal mining.

Akrofuom Assembly dreams of a coconut factory under IDIF DCE Maurice Woode speaking at the programme One hundred and fifty farmers are the proud beneficiaries of 4,000 Malaysian Dwarf Coconut seedlings to be planted as the first phase of a planned scheme to provide over 20,000 of such seedlings to farmers in the district. It is the vision of the assembly that the cultivation of the coconut on a large scale could result in the establishment of a coconut factory under the ‘One District, One Factory’ initiative to offer employment to the youth in the area. Speaking at the presentation of seedlings to the farmers, Mr. Maurice Jonas Woode, District Chief Executive (DCE), said the intention of the assembly to go into mass coconut production falls under the government’s Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) agenda.
