Akrofuom Assembly dreams of a coconut factory under IDIF
DCE Maurice Woode speaking at the programme
One hundred and fifty farmers are the proud beneficiaries of 4,000 Malaysian Dwarf Coconut seedlings to be planted as the first phase of a planned scheme to provide over 20,000 of such seedlings to farmers in the district.
It is the vision of the assembly that the cultivation of the coconut on a large scale could result in the establishment of a coconut factory under the ‘One District, One Factory’ initiative to offer employment to the youth in the area.
Speaking at the presentation of seedlings to the farmers, Mr. Maurice Jonas Woode, District Chief Executive (DCE), said the intention of the assembly to go into mass coconut production falls under the government’s Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) agenda.
