Thousands of grain elevators once dotted the Prairies, but now only a handful remain. Five in the capital region stand out on the historic landscape and might make a destination worth exploring this summer.
Canada Day celebrations in Leduc will be jammed packed with free, family fun activities, an outdoor entertainment stage and a high-flying fireworks show to wrap up the evening. “We’re inviting all Albertans, whether near or far, to pen Leduc into your Canada Day plans this year as our city is offering a fantastic activity line-up that has something for everyone,” says Leduc Mayor Bob Young.

The city will conduct an infrastructure assessment of the Leduc Heritage Grain Elevator as part of a request from the Alberta Legacy Development Society (ALDS) to take over maintenance costs for the facility.
ALDS approached the city in 2019 with a proposal to take on maintenance costs because of the society’s aging membership base.

“In 2020 they came forward with a 10-year plan as well as some idea of the operating costs. At the council meeting earlier this year we basically went to council for approval of up to $30,000 for an infrastructure assessment for the grain elevator,” said Mike Pieters, infrastructure and planning general manager.
