Soldier sexually assaulted two female Gunners aged 17 and 20 at Army barracks

A soldier who sexually assaulted two female Gunners aged 17 and 20 at an Army barracks after sharing seven bottles of gin and two crates of beer with friends has been jailed for two years.   Gunner Wiliame Mataitini attacked his victims at 4am after entering the wrong accommodation at Alanbrooke Barracks, Topcliffe, North Yorkshire. A Fijian national who recently learned his grandfather was unwell back in Asia, he even told one of the young women he could  sense they were scared , a court was told. Gnr Mataitini was sent to military prison for two years and dismissed from the military after pleading guilty to four charges of battery and three charges of sexual assault at Bulford Military Court, Wiltshire.

The Army’s senior officer in the north of England, Major General Giles Hill, hosted local dignitaries at the first of six annual Royal Salutes in York, one of only 12 saluting stations in the country – and the only one in the north of England. Soldiers from 3/29 (Corunna) Battery, 4 Regiment Royal Artillery travelled from their base at Alanbrooke Barracks in Topcliffe, near Thirsk with three 105mm light field guns that were used in action in both the Falklands and Afghanistan.
