BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - More than 900 people showed up to the Anniston City Meeting Center within hours of the Calhoun County EMA announcing COVID-19 vaccines were available for people 75 and older. In Shelby County, 200 doses of the vaccine didnât last long when vaccinations were open to the same age group. The Alabama Department of Public Healthâs (ADPH) COVID-19 vaccine scheduling hotline received more than one million calls in its first day of operation.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WBRC) - The Alabama Department of Public Health posted on social media Wednesday to dispel what they call rumors and information about the COVID-19 vaccine.
There were posts on social media reporting a death in Alabama of a recipient of the COVID-19 vaccine in Alabama.

The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) has reached out to all hospitals in the state which administered the COVID-19 vaccine and confirmed there have been no deaths of vaccine recipients. The posts are untrue.
The Alabama Department of Public Health is warning residents to be cautious of misinformation about the COVID-19 vaccine.
On Wednesday afternoon, the agency tweeted out a screenshot from a person stating a nurse died after receiving the vaccine on Tuesday. ADPH said in the Twitter thread they had reached out to all hospitals that had distributed the vaccine, and none reported deaths.
The agency is encouraging people to get their information from trusted sources, like the state s vaccine information page, and to discourage others from sharing unverified information.
Alabama initially received 40,950 doses of the Pfizer vaccine. Subsequent shipments of both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines should be the same.
