Follow boating safety tips, Alabama Marine Patrol warns

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WTVA) - Alabama law enforcement reminds boaters to be safe during the summer.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Marine Patrol Division is participating in National Safe Boating Week, which is from May 22-28. This leads into the Memorial Day weekend.
From Oct. 1, 2019, to Sept. 30, 2020, Marine Patrol investigated 107 boating-related crashes, resulting in 14 fatalities. The year prior, Marine Patrol investigated 110 boating-related crashes, with 29 fatalities.
“Many of those fatalities could have been prevented by the simple act of wearing a proper personal flotation device (PFD), ALEA’s Secretary Hal Taylor said. EQUALITY, Ala. (AP) - A pilot survived after a seaplane crashed Tuesday on waters of Alabama’s Lake Martin, authorities said.
The aircraft’s wreckage was located about 3:45 p.m., and Sheriff Michael Howell said the pilot’s condition was OK, WSFA-TV reported.
Howell said the pilot reported he was trying to land on the water when he lost control of the plane identified as an Aircam, an open cockpit seaplane. The crash occurred in the unincorporated Equality area of Coosa County, Howell added.
