information about these individual counts of murder in particular victims the jury was asked to look at. murders of individuals that bulger is alleged to have participated in their deaths as well. we have racketeering act two, racketeering act two which is the murder of michael malano. the jury also ruling that act was not proven. he was a bartender driving the same make of mercedes that the restaurant owner that worked for had owned as well. it is believed that is a case of mistaken identity. he was gunned down in a hail of gunfire. in the north end, italian section of boston. that occurred back in 73. one of the earliest murders that bulger and the gang, that is out he allegedly run, according to prosecutors, one of the earliest murders that they allege he took part in. the jury determining that is not proven. as they work through the rest of the racketeering acts. number three, murder of 79-year-old man, a member of the group, the murder of al plumber.
to everybody that he was found guilty on the racketeering and the extortion. it does get a little technical with the racketeering cases because the law is pretty extensive and complicated. however, on the murder and the killing, those are pretty, you know, simple in that regard. again, as was said, he s 83 years old. so even a ten-year sentence is going to be a life sentence for mr. bulger. just so i can explain to everybody, again, i have the list of charges in front of me. when we go underneath the count two itself, how it s broken down, it would be the murder of michael malano, the murder of al plumber, the murder of james o toole, the conspiracy to murder james sosa, the murder of james sosa, murder of paul ma n magonagle. so this goes on and on. it s a true litany. the jury has to decide whether

attorney karen desoto. thanks for your insight. want to go back to nbc s kristen dahlgren outside on the scene in boston. you heard karen say this jury had him at hello. what more insight can you give us about the counts leveled against him? reporter: yeah, so the first two counts, racketeering conspiracy and also racketeering substantive ochffense, guilty verdicts in those two. within the second one were all of these acts. that includes all the acts of murder. so there were some that were not proven and some that were proven. so racketeering act number one, which was conspiracy to murder members of the group, that was not proven as was the murder of michael malano. i misspoke earlier. that was not proven either. the murder of al plumber, not proven. then as we get into some of those later counts, if we get into count eight, the murder of paul magonagle, we have the jury
dead from poisoning, though it s believed to be unrelated. our deborah feyerick is live outside the courthouse. explain what happened in the courthouse today. it was pretty incredible. whitey bulger stood while the verdict was read. he portrayed no emotion, it was almost as if he knew what the outcome was going to be. 31 out of 32 counts. he will likely spend the rest of his life in solitary confinement. for 8 of the 19 families there was heart break and great disappointment. they wanted bulger implicated in the murder of their loved ones and in fact they got no resolution, no justice. there was this moment when everyone in the court almost caught their breath as they read the names, michael milano, not proved, al plumber, not proved, james o toole, not proved. it wasn t until the eighth individual, did everyone hear what they finally wanted to hear
