ABC, SBS nominated at Banff Rockie Awards 2021

April 15th, 2021 By David Knox Make a commentFiled under: News, ABC and SBS titles have been nominated in the prestigious Banff Rockie Awards 2021. 6 titles are nominated across various categories: Bluey, Love on the Spectrum, Revelation, 100% Wolf, First Day for ABC and Filthy Rich & Homeless for SBS. Eureka is again nominated for its US production of   Holey Moley. “We’re ecstatic with the range of high-profile international and Canadian programs that entered and are nominated for the 2021 Rockie Awards,” said Jenn Kuzmyk, Executive Director of the Banff World Media Festival. “This year’s nominees are a showcase of the spirit, creativity and truly exceptional work the global entertainment industry continued to produce amidst a year of challenge and change.  We can’t wait to share this year’s show via a special live stream on June 15th.”

Nikita Unfiltered and ESPN and Netflix’s The Last Dance are among the unscripted and documentary nominees for the 2021 Rockie Awards International Program Competition. The annual awards program, held by the Banff World Media Festival, honours television and digital media programming from around the globe and is deliberated by an international jury of 150 industry professionals across multiple genres. The winners for the 29 categories will be announced in a livestreamed ceremony on YouTube, taking place on June 15 as part of a kickoff of the festival, which runs virtually from June 14 to July 16. BBC Studios picked up the most nominations 28 followed by HBO with nine and Canadian pubcaster CBC with eight.

Fridge Wars declared across Europe

Fridge Wars was co-created by The Gurin Company and the CBC Mediawan-owned Aito Media in Finland, France’s WeMake, Poland’s Rochstar and Endemol Shine Germany have picked up the remake rights to Canadian format Fridge Wars. UK distributor Magnify Media sells the format outside of North America, where the show debuted on Canadian pubcaster the CBC in 2020 before being picked up for a US version on The CW. The format sees top chefs battle to impress a family by making meals purely from what they have in their fridge at home. The Canadian original is a coproduction between the CBC and US-based The Gurin Company.

Presided by veteran sales executive Valerie Vleeschhouwer, Mediawan Rights has signed an exclusive partnership deal with Forbidden Stories, the production banner behind many critically-acclaimed investigative documentaries, such as “Green Blood.” The outfit was founded by Laurent Richard, an award-winning French documentary filmmaker and producer who won the Prix Europa Award for the European Journalist of the Year in 2018.
