Families of people with intellectual disabilities were left reeling last Friday after St John of God Hospital released a statement saying it will be transferring all service provision to the HSE later this year. The transition will be completed by the August 15.
This is a busy time for raising awareness for people with additional needs. This month alone, we have Rare Disease Day and Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) Awareness Week, while this week is Feeding Tube Awareness Week.
It was interesting to hear the justice minister state that the “thugs and criminals” involved in the Dublin rioting will be “arrested and jailed”. These were most reassuring words, but we must remember how the justice system works.
