New Miss Northwestern – Lady of the Bracelet hopes to inspire youth to study technology

Miss Northwestern - Lady of the Bracelet JirNeicia Ward JirNeicia Ward made the decision it was now or never. And saying now was the time led to her being named as the 63 rd Miss Northwestern – Lady of the Bracelet at Northwestern State University. Ward, a senior computer information systems major from Bossier City, will represent the university at this summer’s Miss Louisiana Pageant in Monroe. Meghan Woods of Monroe was first runner up, Alana Lewis of Haughton was second runner up and Sarah Shiflett of Covington was third runner up. Woods won the talent competition. Shiflett won the Children’s Miracle Network Miracle Maker Award and Chileigh Mitchell of Lafayette won the Liz Carroll People’s Choice Award and Miss Congeniality Award.

Shreveport/Bossier s Annual Life March Event Will Not Be Taking Place This Year

Due to current COVID-19 restrictions and out of caution to keep everyone safe, Shreveport/Bossier’s annual Life March event will not be taking place this year. Instead, organizers are hosting “Stand For Life, Louisiana” on Saturday, January 23, at 10:30 a.m. in communities across the state. “Stand For Life, Louisiana” will allow participants to peacefully and publicly protest abortion while maintaining social distance and adhering to all state guidelines. Participants will gather along busy thoroughfares in cities across Louisiana and hold signs to share our message with the public. In our area, “Stand For Life, Louisiana” will be held in two locations: Shreveport in front of Broadmoor Baptist Church on Youree Drive, and Bossier on Airline Drive in front of Airline High School.

Crash of civilian aircraft on Barksdale reservation kills two

Two Bossier City, LA, teenagers were killed Wednesday in the crash of a single-engine aircraft on the East Reservation of Barksdale Air Force Base. Jet Andrew Montgomery, 18, and Jonathan Cole Harris, 19, died in the crash. Both young men were recent graduates of Airline High School. Montgomery was a freshman at Louisiana Tech and, according to the FAA pilot database, was a student pilot. Harris was not listed in the pilot database. At approximately 4:45 a.m. on Wednesday, local air traffic controllers lost radar contact with the aircraft over the east side reservation of Barksdale. The installation was notified by the Federal Aviation Administration at 5 a.m., and first responders were dispatched for a search with intent to rescue operation.
