On Tuesday, Cuyahoga County Council moved to amend the county's 2023 budget dispersal of more than $32 million taxpayers contribute to the operation of MetroHealth, the county’s safety-net hospital.
This is not, to say the least, the welcome MetroHealth wanted to offer its new CEO, Airica Steed, or the one the veteran Chicago hospital executive deserved.
Dr. Akram Boutros said in a lawsuit filed Monday in Cuyahoga County court that Cleveland-based MetroHealth’s board of directors violated open meeting laws when it “secretly hired” counsel to investigate him and then terminated him without mandatory public notice.
The now-fired MetroHealth CEO Dr. Akram Boutros could face criminal charges for Ohio ethics violations and theft in office, according to an investigative report released Friday by MetroHealth.
Dr. Akram Boutros maintains he has done "nothing wrong here" and is, instead, a victim of retaliation for blowing the whistle on board of trustees practices related to the hiring of his successor.
