Amar Jawan Jyoti’s eternal flame at the India Gate lawns will be merged with the National War Memorial's torch on Friday. For over 50 years, the flame has been burning.
This comes days ahead of the Republic Day celebration on January 26.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday slammed the Central Government over its decision to extinguish the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate in the national capital after 50 years and merge it with the flame at the National War Memorial.
The eternal flame known as Amar Jawan Jyoti was built in 1972 underneath the India Gate arch to commemorate the soldiers martyred in the Indo Pak War of 1971
