let s listen. operation maritime domain awareness information sharing practices and tactical expertise to enhance the collective capabilities of all the participating nations with sea-based illicit activities. couple questions on ukraine. the west, i think two air fields, is that, does that suggest a widening of the war effort by russia and the second question has to do with the much discussed convoy north or northwest of kyiv? do changes in the positioning of elements of that convoy look like an imminent assault on kyiv or significant military movement? well, i would say that people of kyiv would tell you they are under assault right now.
when it comes to russia and this war. sam, how the strikes in the west, how much of that do you think by russia not only sending a message but also as you said perhaps to foreign fighters, even to poland and nato countries but also an attempt to stop possible shipment routes of more weaponry, of more humanitarian aid? reporter: oh, i don t think there is any doubt at all about it. you mentioned early on, anderson, there are air strikes against two air fields. i think 24 hours or so before this latest missile strike against the training facility all in the west of the country, all potential movement or nodes that would receive aid but also distribute military aid in particular coming out of the air fields. the air fields used by drones and other fighter jets the ukrainians are managing to fly
south and still fighting in the donbas. marginal change or widening of their effort? i think it s too soon to know. two strikes on two fields and it s not like we have not seen any in the past there. so i think it s too soon to be able to divine some sort of larger purpose here or some strategy. again, the vast, vast majority of their combat power is being spent in the east. yeah. jen. john, what kind of weapon was used to fire at those air fields? was it a missile from belarus or what do you assess? we don t have point of origin. russians have admitted they used long range precision guided weapons. certainly we would agree with the long range aspect of this, they don t have force structure in ukraine that is really concentrated in the west. all of the ground power is in the east. i don t think we would push back on the notion it s long range.
fields that were hit. a couple of satellite pictures, the bombers lined up here, squadron of them, either migs or others, difficult to tell. but what s the prevailing theory why the air fields are attack. possibly areas where nato countries are flying in weapons resupplies? look, i think the russians are trying to hit the ukrainians as hard as they can in different areas that would allow ukraine to hit russian convoys like we have seen outside the city. the ukrainian air force is very much intact, despite the propaganda about their ability to destroy planes and air defense systems. in the coming days we can expect to see russia continue the targets. they are concerned about the troops outside the city in many locations because the ukrainians know where they are and trying
keep themselves strong and hopeful. it s an excruciating story. thanks, benjamin. benjamin hall in kyiv. so let s bring in special report anchor, bret baier. we were going to talk politics but there s no story more important than what s going on right now in ukraine. you know, your thoughts on kyiv as we watch the movement here and we see these two air fields to the east that were attacked earlier. perhaps in answer to the idea that mig 29s could land there. what is your assessment and what you re hearing of where we stand right now? good afternoon. i ll tell you, it s tough to watch the i m images of ben hall s piece on the ground and the children being affected by the war directly. there s a sense that russia is losing. senator warner from senate intel committee, the chair on special
