begin an examination of a wing flap which washed up on a remote island in the indian ocean. investigators already know the wreckage is from a boeing 777. next hopefully will come confirmation if it came from the missing airliner mh370. anna coren joins us live from hong kong with the details. it is interesting, anna, the french asked an australian expert to take part in the examination. why is that? reporter: look, john, the australians have been in charge of the search for mh370 since the very beginning. when the plane disappeared in march of last year with 239 people on board. it was shortly after that the australians were placed in charge of that search off the coast of western australia. so really it does make sense for the french to involve the australians considering the experience and the expertise that they have. of course the french have plenty of experience when it comes to air crash investigations. but with mh370 they are quite
today. when all the organizations involved in this investigation arrived just a few hours ago, really they were only there for two and a half three hours and clearly now we know that they were able to conclusively attach that flaperon which we knew to be from a 777 aircraft to mh-370. the ntsb and boeing that makes the aircraft malaysian authorities, malaysia airlines a specialized team for mh-370 from malaysia as well and then chinese officials, australian officials and, of course the paris prosecutor represents it brooke and this is not just an air crash investigation here in france. this is a manslaughter investigation because the families of the four full french nationals on board have brought a case for manslaughter and should terrorism or hijack having been involved with the disappearance of mh-370 so of course the priority though

echoing what the malaysian p.m. was saying as far as where the investigation stands now. yeah hi brooke. slightly more as you put it and measured tone from the french prosecutor s office. this was the deputy prosecutor speaking. a reminder to everyone why the french prosecution service is involved. that is because this is not just an air crash investigation. this is a manslaughter case in france. the four french nationals on board mh-370 their families have brought their case and should hijacking or terrorism been involved in the disappearance of that plane which disappeared more than 17 months ago. now, he took the tone of the process of elimination, a lot more caution, we heard, and when we said strong supposition or strong indication that this is from mh-370 he brought forward two conclusions that they came to and gave us what happened really inside there and that is that the boeing experts that were present inside this lab
authorities met with french aviation authorities and talked about how they want to move forward, and malaysian transport ministry and the civil aviation authority released a statement saying that they ve agreed how they re going to move forward, what examinations they re going to do and crucially, carol, they ve agreed to conduct examinations both under international aviation legislation but also under judicial legislation, and that is because there s also a manslaughter case here in france that s been launched by the families of the four nationals on mh-370. now, that is why there s going to be a judicial investigation and an air crash investigation going on simultaneously. those are the parameters they ve decided. cnn has also learned that the ntsb and boeing and malaysian authorities and malaysian investigation in charge will be meeting meeting here in toulouse.
