Environmental advocates are criticizing the Department of Health for the delay in telling the public that a drinking water well in Kunia Village was contaminated with toxic forever chemicals. Hawaii News Now reported last week, hundreds of residents are getting bottled water.
The Navy announced it would further delay removing fuel from its three pipelines at Red Hill after a fourth main in its water system was reported to have broke Monday morning, reducing water access for some 93,000 people connected to the system.
With the current rate of voluntary water conservation, proposed construction projects in Honolulu are no longer in jeopardy of being put on hold, Board of Water Supply Chief Engineer Ernie Lau reported Tuesday.
The state Department of Health says there are heightened levels of fuel contamination in groundwater and soil near the Navy's Red Hill fuel storage facility. But health officials say there is no indication that water coming from the Board of Water Supply has been affected. HPR’s Scott Kim has more.
