Hundreds of residents of Kunia Village have finally been given the all-clear to resume drinking their tap water after two wells that supplied their potable water tested positive for chemicals called PFAS earlier this year.
In January, the state Department of Health announced that chemicals known as PFAS, an acronym for perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, had been detected in water samples collected from a well that supplies drinking water to the community.
Environmental advocates are criticizing the Department of Health for the delay in telling the public that a drinking water well in Kunia Village was contaminated with toxic forever chemicals. Hawaii News Now reported last week, hundreds of residents are getting bottled water.
