Dragon fruit: Gujarat govt renames dragon fruit grown in Gujarat as Kamalam | Ahmedabad News

Dragon fruit GANDHINAGAR: The BJP government in Gujarat has initiated the process of patenting the name of the variety of dragon fruit grown in Gujarat as ‘kamalam’, which is also the name of the state party headquarters. It means lotus the symbol of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Addressing a press conference to announce formation of the horticulture development mission, chief minister Vijay Rupani said, “We have named the dragon fruit grown in Gujarat as kamalam. Now the variety grown in Gujarat will be known as kamalam. We are in the process of getting patent for this.” The CM, however, clarified that there was no political angle to naming the dragon fruit variety grow in Gujarat as kamalam. When asked about the rationale behind rechristening the fruit as kamalam, the CM said, “One need not see any political angle into this. Farmers call it kamalam (lotus) fruit in Gujarat, so the government has named it kamalam.”

Girl abducted in Anjar for Rs 10 crore ransom, released | Rajkot News

She was abducted in a car by four persons from Anjar on Friday RAJKOT: A 20-year-old college girl was abducted allegedly by four persons in a car from the main market of Anjar town in Kutch on Friday evening. The girl, however, was released by the kidnappers on Saturday morning when they became suspicious that the cops were on their trail. The girl Janki alias Janu Udwani had just reached her computer class in the main market of Anjar around 7pm when she was forcefully taken away in a car by four persons. Udwani, a college student in Anjar, lives in Vijaynagar area. The kidnappers called Udwani’s father Mariyani alias Mehul, who is a cutlery trader in Anjar, and demanded a ransom of Rs 10 crore by Saturday morning for Udwani’s release. A worried Mehul informed the police to get his daughter back home safe.

File photo of Mahatma Gandhi AHMEDABAD: Former West Bengal governor and Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson Gopalkrishna Gandhi has donated 550 letters between Bapu, Kasturba, Sardar Patel, Mahadev Desai, and his father Devdas Gandhi (Mahatma’s youngest son) to Sabarmati Ashram Preservation and Memorial Trust on Friday. The collection also includes special envelopes made by Sardar Patel while in jail. These unpublished letters were to form part of the 100 volumes of the collected works of Mahatma Gandhi. Devdas Gandhi had desired to compile these letters himself and publish them with his own notes. However, his death in 1957 stalled the project. The intimate letters include Bapu’s editing instruction to Devdas on certain articles as well as Kasturba remembering Devdas and expressing her desire to meet him.
