40-year-old apartment building kept the smoky fire confined to the apartment where it began. filling the unit with toxic deadly air. ahmad wilson was driving through the intersection of 18th and gail street northeast when he heard children screaming. i just seen black smoke coming out, and the lady was, like, the kids were screaming. so i got out of my car, got out and tried to break the glass. as i broke the glass, the smoke was too much to come out to go in. it kind of it was bad, you know. we heard the kids stop screaming. by that time the fire department was here. reporter: inside the apartment, firefighters found a little boy, 4 years old. he was unconscious. he was rushed to the hospital along with a woman whose relationship to the children is not clear. we also have an adult female maybe in her late 20s, maybe 30 years old who has burns to her hands, possibly some smoke inhalation and some other assorted injuries. presumably she attempted to go back into the ap
