Utility crews and emergency workers worked much of Friday morning and afternoon restoring power and rerouting traffic after a line of powerful thunderstorms moved through southern Illinois and areas to the south. The storms brought widespread winds of close to 50 and 60 mph, heavy rainfall and scattered damage through the area, mostly from fallen tree branches and limbs. The storms moved through Fairfield shortly before 7 o clock Friday morning, resulting in the city of Fairfield losing power for a time Friday morning. Wayne-White Counties Electric Cooperative crews were seen in Fairfield Friday working quickly to restore power in affected areas. Edwards County authorities detoured traffic on Illinois Route 130 Friday north of Albion after power lines were downed across a portion of the highway.
