New Delhi, Dec 18 : Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs Anurag Thakur, who comes from Himachal Pradesh, has an understanding of farm issues. In an exhaustive conversation with IANS, he provides the government’s point of view on the contentious farm laws which have seen farmers laying siege to Delhi.

Q: Farmers are apprehensive that the government will withdraw completely from purchasing farm produce and leave it entirely open to the private sector. The corporates, n turn, will purchase a small portion of the total produce “as per the high standards which can be manipulated” and the remaining crop will get paid only a pittance…

While the fault line on the farm bills may be the prime minister versus the rest of the political outfits, PM Modi on Tuesday dug in his heels and attacked the Opposition for using the shoulders of the farmers to fire. PM said that the Opposition leaders used to bat for these reforms when they were in power but, now that this historic step has been taken, they are misleading them.
