Magnetic zaps to the brain can significantly help people with severe depression, if the procedure is guided using MRI brain scans, a new clinical trial has concluded.
Using MRI scans to deliver targeted magnetic stimulation to depressed people’s brains could ease symptoms for six months, researchers have suggested. Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a method which uses magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain, and is usually delivered in sessions over four to six weeks. According to academics at the UK's University of Nottingham, symptoms in depressed patients usually ease for one to three months following treatment. However, the BRIGhTMIND tri
Scientists at Stanford University have discovered how to use magnetic pulses to more easily induce hypnosis, a fascinating study published in the journal Nature Mental Health purports. To be clear, the method — clunkily dubbed the Stanford Hypnosis Integrated with Functional Connectivity-targeted Transcranial Stimulation, or SHIFT for short — doesn't do the hypnotizing. Instead, SHIFT […]
NASA’s Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport (InSight) lander has detected mystery magnetic pulses on the Mars. However, the cause of the pulsation is currently unknown. The information was presented at the joint meeting of the European Planetary Science Congress and the American Astronomical Society, taking place in Geneva. The Insight Lander has been on the red planet since November 2018.
