History without a fight. [applause] and nobody knows that better than the woman that we are honoring tonight. We admire tori clinton because she has sex fully thought to expand opportunity here and all around the world. Because without her, we would still be talking about universal healthcare as if it were some sort of pipe dream. And yes because she did put 18 million cracks in that glass ceiling. But she didnt get to do any of that stuff the easy way. Nobody in american political history has faced more unfair attacks, more desperate opposition, or older you overwhelming diversity yet through her courage and resiliency and integrity, she has shown us all how to shake off the setbacks, ignore the haters and focus on moving our country forward. Thats why shes more than an idle. Shes an inspiration and whose talent we desperately need now more than ever. I am so proud to have her with us tonight. [inaudible] [laughter] for every human being in every society we cant continue to campaign f
Attack. Hello. First to our top story. E. U. Foreign ministers have pledged to counter radicalized europeans returning from syria and iraq. Meeting in brussels and kuwait, leaders vowed to use the most robust strategies at home and abroad to combat terrorism. Ideas put forward including more support for police in the middle east and north africa cracking down on arms trafficking. They are going to lay out the finalized strategies in february. They said a continued dialogue was needed. Part of the narrative is that we have a double standard. We only care about victims in europe. We know very well that the first victims of terrorists and terrorist acts are muslims and arab countries. We need to work on developing a dialogue and alliance of civilization and avoid any kind of perception of clash. Douglas weeks is a london based terrorist researcher. Thank you for joining us. Thank you. They are calling for a Broader Alliance for tackling terrorism, dealing with radicalized people returning
All our states are hit by the slew of proposed epa rules aimed squarely at the fossil fuel industry and folks that work in that industry. I would like to highlight a letter from the governor of wyoming to the epa administrator on april 28th i ask that letter be entered into the record, madam chairman. In this letter the governor highlights a study by the center for Energy Economics and Public Policy at university of wyoming entitled impact of the coal economy on wyoming published february of this year. I would ask that this study be entered into the record. Without objection. Thank you. The governor states about the study that it determined the single largest threat to wyomings coal industry is epas clean power rule. In fact, the study says that 111 d climate regulation has potential to drastically reduce wyoming coal production. Coal output under favorable circumstances decreases by 32 of the 2012 production by the year 2025. Study goes on to say even the best case of impact modeling
Been given one year, thats a very real problem. But there are real costs being expended by the states and also i believe this administration is not interested whether the rule is finalized so long as the marketplace moves away from them. If coal fired power plants have to be retired quicker than baseline, then theyre going to accomplish the goal, even if this regulation never is upheld in courts. Thank you i want to follow up on this. Ill wait until the second round. Senator markey. Thank you madam chair. I ask that two articles by jed ee freedman and Richard Lazarus be included they provide thorough analysis of that clean power rule. So ordered. Pope frances is about to issue on Climate Change. They named the jesuit who taught chemistry as the pope. Pope frances believes science is the answer to our prayers, we have to look at modest ways to look at this to reduce the danger that growing Greenhouse Gases will impose to gods creation of the planet. I think it is important for us to fin
Goes to her doctor, who orders a lung ct scan and a new blood test developed through research supported by the Precision Medicine initiative to look for dna and other biomarkers circulating in her blood. The ct scan detects a tiny spot that could be inflammation from bronchitis or cancer not clear, but the biomarker test clinches the diagnosis, revealing a genetic mutation that occurs only in patients with cancer. In 2015, today her prognosis from this cancer would be pretty grim. But in 2018 that could all change. Lily is treated with surgery to remove the tumor and the tumor dna undergoes molecular analysis. Based on those results, lily is treated with a targeted drug that was originally developed for skin cancer but has the right properties for her tumor. She also receives a course of immunotherapy designed to kill any tumor cells that may be lurking in her body. With this treatment a decade later, lily remains cancer free. Thats a hypothetical but quite realistic of what the cancer
