Agawam police officer injured in serious car crash in front of town hall

An Agawam police officer was injured in a serious car crash early Thursday in front of the community’s town hall, according to authorities.
The crash was reported around 7:45 a.m. in the area of 68 Main St. in front of Agawam Town Hall, said Lt. Jennifer Blanchette of the Agawam Police Department. Only one car was involved in the collision, and only the officer was injured and taken to the hospital.
The officer’s injuries don’t appear to be life-threatening, “fortunately, thank god,” Blanchette told MassLive. He was on duty at the time of the crash, according to her.

Two men are facing charges in Western Massachusetts after being busted with drugs and illegal weapons following an investigation into heroin distribution, police said.
Springfield Police Narcotics detectives were conducting a heroin distribution investigation on Wednesday, April 14 when they saw a suspect, Jeffrey Cipriani, leave his area home, where he was followed to the residence of the investigation’s target, Efrain Morales Jr., in Feeding Hills.
According to police, the two met in an open garage while counting heroin half-packs (50 bags) that Cipriani took with him as he left the home.
While on his way home, police said that investigators conducted a traffic stop on St. James Avenue, where they found that Cipriani was in possession of 1,000 bags of heroin and placed him under arrest.
Agawam pedestrian seriously injured after being struck by vehicle

AGAWAM – A 77-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a motor vehicle Wednesday afternoon.
The man suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash. He was taken to Baystate Medical Center, in Springfield, by the Agawam Fire Department ambulance, said Police Lt. Dan Bonafilia.
The pedestrian, whose name was not released, was struck at about 4:15 p.m. while he was near 638 Mill St. The vehicle has heading westbound when the crash occurred, he said.
Mill Street is currently closed between Franklin and Kensington streets while Agawam Police, with the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police Collision and Reconstruction Section, investigate the crash, Bonafilia said.

A Massachusetts police department is praising one of their officers for his heroic actions after he helped a pregnant woman welcome her baby into the world.

After arriving at the scene, Hall successfully helped the woman deliver her healthy baby girl, who was named Sophia, the APD wrote in the congratulatory post alongside a photo of Hall holding the newborn.
