criminal record. what i thought was startling the attorneys told me that there were also two kids who they said were either 11 or 12 years old swept up in this and were detained for the last three days. thank you for being with me and the growing latino in baltimore has been keeping a close eye on the unrest. the latest government census shows latinos make up almost 5% of the city s population. the number of latinos in baltimore nearly doubled to 26,000 in 2010. joining me now is executive director of casa maryland a service organization. good to see you. thank you. your group s baltimore office is located in the area where the riots broke out on monday. tell me your reaction and how the latino community is reacting. that is correct. we are in solidarity with the
negotiation notion the case was going to be made public. they intended to let the public know the timeline of the investigation was flying and friday they were hoping to turn information from police department to state attorney s office. i am looking at a statement or document that the authorities had placed about what they call investigation and review process. it talks about task force investigation medical examiner and next step being state attorney s office. nowhere on this list does it say release information to the public. having said that the thought is out there. people wanting it and it s not going to happen. what is happening you have community leaders going throughout various parts of the community and people going into schools letting high school kids know there is no reason for anyone to engage in any agitated kind of behavior. the process is working itself
maryland and virginia related with police brutality and an issue when you are undocumented the police feel you don t have rights so they abuse you all the time. i think that is very important. the african-american community has been suffering tremendously for many many years. latinos have been in the same situation. that is the reason why we are working together in partnership with the african-american community in baltimore because we believe that is the way to bring justice to our communities. communication specialist says the african-american and latino communities have had differences but in times of crisis support each other. talk to me about the differences. we have differences that are not as important as things that unite us. anything related with affordable housing, bringing justice to our community and register people to
