we ve got so many agencies from dade and broward out here. just we ve seen several s.w.a.t. teams go in with full active gear on. again, students coming out, telling us they do know who this student is. another student just came out. you ll have to excuse me, saying a teacher could have possibly passed. this is all information that s coming out. just like anything it s a fluid situation and we have not confirmed any of this information. so, if you re a parent and you re watching this hopefully, you can get on the phone with your child and confirm some of we ve been listening to the voice of our affiliate reporter down there in broward area. let me repeat myself. it is in the early stages of this of what s going on, this active shooter situation. there is a lot of misinformation that gets out there. people seeing these reports that are just not correct.
active shooter near the mandalay bay casino on the strip. police are asking everyone to avoid this area. you can appreciate the police presence with the sirens. let s go to our affiliate reporter there on the ground. we just saw that team that was moving, that tactical team that moved in. but a very serious situation out here. and i want to bring in danny here. he is visiting from australia you. were in the mandalay bay earlier. tell me what you saw, what you heard. we saw first officers about eight running into the lift bay at 31 lift bay. they were going up. they were coming down that were going this way, we were told to get out, we were told to get. in one shooter is still up there. and one is roaming around and we ve been told to come here and we think we re safe here because there is so many police. ed you to see the shooters? no. did you hear anything? yeah, a lot of gunshots. but the initial gunshots apparently like machine gun fire. so it was like a rapid-fire? y
you re not sure the roadway, even though you may be familiar with the road, if the roadway has eroded underneath that water, that s why it s so important for folks, even though they may be familiar with an area, to turn around and not drive into that water. tell me about some of the rescues that did take place overnight, because i understand y all were very busy. we were very busy. we re supporting jurisdictions across the state, including those in navarro county, and had over, approximately 22 water rescues, both residential and from some automobiles. and it s pretty tricky, because at night, where visibility is poor, sometimes folks don t even know that they re about to, you know, drive into high water, but by daylight now, i understand from our ed lavendera and also an affiliate reporter, who said, there were people who were driving about they re out and about. but what are you asking people to do in terms of identifying danger before finding themselves in it.
good day to you and we begin this hour in ferguson, missouri, one year after the michael brown shooting and police are back on the streets in that city as are hundreds of protesters. i want to show you new video that came in where you can hear shots being fired just moments ago as a reporter was conducting an interview. listen to this sound here. we re trying to work with the community. we re explaining to them their rights and we just want to be as patient as possible [ gunshots ]. what is that? gunfire. you can actually hear shots ring out as an affiliate reporter was conducting an interview with the new chief of police there in ferguson. and the st. louis county police department said that police are trying to uphold peace and they want to prevent further businesses from damage. and they tweeted that several
gunman who fired the shots in both places. and that as i just said one police officer was wounded in the leg. you ve seen the affiliate reporter who is there at the hospital where we believe a total of five people now were injured. a police officer and four people from the marine corps. pete, the other thing that you can discount is the bradley square mall incident. that s where someone had been reported that there were shots there. that is not true. officials, federal and state officials, say they checked that out and there were no reports of shooting no actual shots fired at the shopping mall. pete, as you understand it though, who would take priority in investigating this? wouldn t this be considered federal property? well, it depends. i mean i think the quick answer is it s going to be the local officials who are doing it. that s always been the case here when there were you know i come to mind of series of shootings at military recruiting
