Senators approve bill on public rallies in Belarus
MINSK, 21 April (BelTA) – Senators approved the bill to amend the law on mass events in Belarus at a meeting of the fifth session of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus of the seventh convocation, BelTA has learned. Amendments to the law on mass events were dictated by time and law enforcement practice, Belarusian Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Kubrakov said. “The new bill scraps the notification-based procedure for organizing mass events when it was enough to notify the authorities. We have made changes. We suggest a mandatory application-based procedure. Why? The second half of 2020 showed that some individuals, namely the destructive forces, used this regulation to organize mass events. Crimes were committed during riots, including grave ones.

MINSK, 21 April (BelTA) – The Ministry of Internal Affairs did not implement enhanced security measures in the wake of the attempted coup, Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Kubrakov said answering a question from journalists, BelTA has learned.
“The police perform routine law enforcement work. There are no enhanced security measures, we respond to threats that emerge every now and then,” Ivan Kubrakov said.
At the same time, more attention is paid to public order. “You have probably noticed increased police presence on the streets. The increased number of officers on foot patrol is due to the spring-summer season. Although it is not warm yet, young people have already started flocking to parks and squares, so our employees maintain public order there as usual,” the minister added.
