At first glance at the jockeys list for Thursday’s Rockhampton Jockey Club eight race TAB meeting, one could be excused for misconstruing it as a metropolitan register.
Not so of course but the names of Robbie Fradd, Bobby El-lssa, Matthew McGillivray, Ryan Wiggins, and Brad Pengelly have all featured most prominently on metropolitan tracks.
That is not by any means dismissing the talents of Nathan Day, Ashley Butler, Chris Whiteley, Les Tilley and one of the most naturally gifted and talented as them all in Ric McMahon.
The latter had Brisbane racing at its throat not so many years back with numerous feature race wins during an association with top notch horses such as Better Than Ready.
Day one of the Magic Millions sales resulted in some big buys for Rockhampton.

A huge influx of yearlings is Rockhampton bound after an estimated 22 were purchased with that intent at the Gold Coast on Monday.
This represents a record in that arena from the first session on Monday’s Magic Millions March QTIS Yearling Sale.
Some $691,500 was outplayed for them when 160 yearlings sold for a gross of $7.45 million.
This brought about a grand first days result with a record average of $47,175.
In a bold expression of his confidence in Rockhampton racing, Gracemere’s Colin Bell topped the CQ brigade with a $105,000 buy.

Rockhampton trainer Clinton Taylor built on the armoury of his stable of promising horses when debutant Attackabeel blew the field away at Rockhamptonâs Callaghan Park races last Saturday.
Attackabeel (b f 2 Counterattack-Tia (NZ) x Savabeel) lay in ambush in third placing coming into the straight before Justin Stanley fired her up to claim the leaders and win by 2.5 lengths.
Ahooshu (Nathan Day, $20.00) ran well for second, with another long shot in Chesterâs Angel (Dan McGillivray, $41.00) a length away in third placing.

IN THE spirit of Christmas, Racing Queensland was left with no other option but to divide Friday’s QTIS 3YO Maiden (1100m) at Callaghan Park, thereby expanding the program out to nine races.
As such, the stage is set for one of the busiest Friday race meetings ever staged by the Rockhampton Jockey Club with 106 horses declared to start.
