6 hours ago Adnan Okasha, Staff Reporter The 5-year-old UAE national, Zaid Saeed Ahmed Al Shehhi, who had been rescued from drowning off a beach in the city of Ras Al Khaimah, near Al Maahad beach, died on Tuesday 51 days after being admitted in the intensive care unit in Al Qasimi Hospital in Sharjah. Saeed Al Shehhi, the father of the child from Khatt, south of Ras Al Khaimah told Gulf Today that the child died at Al Qasimi Hospital in Sharjah, after spending some days in Saqr Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah. He indicated that the deceased child s mother and the maid attempted to save him and his mother had almost drowned, but he was rescued.

The Operations Room reportedly received a tipoff from an Asian family last Friday alerting the loss of their child in Mount Yanas. The competent teams rushed to the scene instantly on receiving the report with a number of residents of the area, the Hazza Fazza team for adventures and a helicopter from the National Centre for Search and Rescue.

Surgery cures eyes injured by fireworks 5 hours ago Adnan Okasha, Staff Reporter A medical team at the ophthalmology department of Sheikh Khalifa Specialist Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah saved a 10-year-old citizen from losing his eyesight after a successful surgery. The child’s eyes were injured when he was playing with fireworks at his home. The fireworks resulted in corneal burns, bleeding in the front part of the eye and cataracts. Dr. Ewi Seok Han, a consultant ophthalmologist at the hospital, explained that the fireworks caused severe burns to the child’s eye and severe trauma in the front part, which led to blurring of vision and pain in the eye, due to the explosion.
