Suburban Mosaic: Teen starts nonprofit to get more girls interested in STEM fields

First-generation Indian American Ruby Arun, 15, of Inverness launched Mission:MathMinds, a nonprofit whose goal is "to create more interest in math fields at a younger age so that more girls are keen to join STEM fields in the future." The incoming sophomore at William Fremd High School in Palatine has plans to expand the group s mission.

Longtime District 62 bilingual program director retiring

A Puerto Rican transplant, Milagros Bravo was an instructional specialist at Des Plaines Elementary District 62 when she was asked to help set up the district s bilingual program. That was 20 years ago. Now, Bravo, 54, of Vernon Hills is retiring as the district s director of the English as a Second Language, bilingual, and world language programs.
