Monsoon was once the store which managed to at once epitomise eclectic boho-chic and be a dependable presence on high streets up and down the country.
Founded by Peter Simon after his adventures on the hippie trail, it was originally a stall at Portobello Market in the ‘70s, eventually expanding to become the household-name chain. Monsoon was talking about ethics and sustainability long before they were big buzzwords in fashion and was probably the closest thing you d get in Britain to feeling like you were browsing handcrafted local wares on a hot holiday anywhere off the beaten track.
