EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - A coat giveaway was held in downtown Evansville on Saturday.
New Hope Missionary Baptist Church organized the event for the sixth consecutive year to help people that are homeless and out in the cold.
Church leaders set up shop at the Metropolitan Evansville Transit System (METS) bus station for a couple of hours. They passed out masks, gloves and scarves, as well as offered prayers to those who wanted them.
“When they got off the bus a while ago, they swarmed the table,” Adeline Chinn with New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. “Nobody gets turned away. We love what we do. Every ministry donated two coats brand new. Our coats, we have gently used ones, everything’s been washed and sanitized, and we’re just out here to help people that’s still in need of.”
