Siji were cremated on the premises of his ancestral home at Kuruvanthodu-panikkasserry at Pozhuthana in Wayanad district with military and State honours on Friday. Siji, a Junior Commissioned Officer attached to the 28 Madras Regiment of the Indian Army, was killed when an avalanche hit him while he was in the line of duty on Tuesday. Siji’s body was brought to his native village at Pozhuthana in the early hours of Friday. The body was kept at his ancestral house at Pozhuthana for the public to pay homage. District Collector Adeela Abdulla and Joint Police Superintendent Ajith Kumar paid homage.

Wayanad s daily COVID-19 cases cross 1,000-mark

1,039 contract virus through local transmission The number of daily COVID-19 cases in Wayanad district crossed the 1,000-mark for the first time on Thursday, with 1,056 persons testing positive for SARS-CoV-2. Of this, 1,039 people, including 11 health workers, contracted the virus through local transmission. While sixteen persons retuned from other States, a person came back from the U.K , District Medical officer R. Renuka said. District Collector Adeela Abdulla and Dr. Renuka have urged people to exercise extreme caution. The average test positivity rate in the district stood at 26.57%, Dr. Renuka said. The district has so far reported 45,071 COVID-19 cases. Of this, 32,202 have recovered from the disease, including 187 persons on Thursday.

The round-the-clock war room would coordinate oxygen supply and ensure its availability in the district, said District Collector Adeela Abdulla. Assistant Collector Balpreet Singh is the nodal officer of the programme. The staff members and equipment needed will be provided by the District Medical Officer. All hospitals in the district will keep the war room informed of oxygen stocked, daily use and number of empty cylinders.

Mary Matha Arts and Science College and St. Mary’s College would be the counting centres for Mananthavady and Sulthan Bathery constituencies respectively, Ms. Abdulla said.

Tribal hostels in Wayanad to be converted into FLTCs Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA The Wayanad district administration is preparing to hand over the buildings of hostels and model residential schools for tribal children with furniture for the smooth functioning of the COVID first-line treatment centres (CFLT) in the wake of the increase in COVID-19 positive cases in the district. District Collector Adeela Abdulla said that she had directed the Tribal Development Department officials to provide the facilities on a war footing to the local administrative bodies as per the request of the secretaries of the civic bodies. The secretaries should ensure good condition of the furniture before turning them over to the institutions, Ms. Abdulla said.
