Noida: More than a year ago, the Noida Authority had started a campaign to segregate waste at doorsteps.
While most sectors and condominiums have inculcated the habit of sorting out waste before they are collected, the Authority is faced with a challenge to make the urban villages fall in line despite months of awareness drives and threats to impose fines on those found littering the roads.
The Authority had taken a tough stand while launching the campaign last year. It had refused to collect waste from households that did not segregate them. While around 50 housing societies and sectors in the city complied, garbage started lining the roads in villages on the outskirts of Noida. As villagers refused to sort out waste, the Authority was forced to resort to its earlier practice of collecting unsegregated trash.
