The Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday confirmed taking into custody two army officers, suspected of armed robbery and murder of an Islamic cleric, Sheik Goni Aisami in Yobe State. The spokesperson for the police command in Yobe, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim in a statement noted that the two soldiers, John Gabriel and Adamu Gideon, were arrested at the scene of the crime.
The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has called for the prosecution of the suspected killers of Shaykh Goni Aisami, a Yobe-based Islamic cleric who was allegedly shot by two soldiers. The JNI is a coalition of Islamic organisations, mainly in Northern Nigeria. It is headed by the Sultan of Sokoto, Saad Abubakar. SaharaReporters had reported the arrest of two soldiers over the murder of Aisami. He was killed near Jaji Maji in the Karasuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State.
