The Kirksville boys wrestling had a strong showing at the Class 2 District 2 Tournament on Feb. 16 and 17 in Boonville. They left the tournament with two district champions, a fourth-place team finish and a group of four wrestlers heading to the State Tournament.
Truman State sophomore Xavier Hall was named the GLVC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday. The guard helped lead the Bulldogs to a pair of wins last week, their fifth and sixth wins in a row.
The Truman State men’s basketball team headed on a long road trip last week to play a pair of tough conference teams. After opening the trip with a win over a fourth-place Lewis team 60-59 on Thursday, the Bulldogs took down GLVC-leading Indianapolis 85-76 Saturday to extend their winning streak to four-straight games and improve to 8-6 in conference play this season. They stayed in sixth place in the conference standings. Indianapolis fell to 11-3 in conference play and remained in first place.
The announcement of Truman State head football coach Gregg Nesbitt’s retirement on Friday has put an end to the more than four-decade career of a Missouri football coaching mainstay. A member of the Missouri Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Nesbitt said that the decision to retire was a difficult one considering the implications of coaching changes.
Despite having their lead cut to just a single point early in the fourth quarter, the Kirksville boys basketball team managed to pull away from Fulton Friday night to pick up a 71-55 home win. The victory was the third-straight for the Tigers and fifth in their last seven games as they improved to 13-7 on the season. Fulton dropped to 6-17 with the loss.
