The Truman State football team took control early and pulled away with 35 points in the second half to win their conference opener against McKendree 56-24 on the road Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs returned three interceptions for touchdowns in the game as they helped the team put up its highest point total since a 59-32 win over Quincy on Oct. 29 last year.
The Kirksville volleyball team got back above the .500 mark with a 3-0 win over a winless Marshall team on Thursday. After a brief two-match losing streak, their first time dropping consecutive matches since the third and fourth matches of the season, the Tigers have won three of their last four to improve to 8-7 on the season.
The Kirksville football team was able to come up big at home Friday night, snapping a losing streak with a 28-10 win over Marshall. Both teams came into the game at 1-3 on the season and having lost their last three games, desperately needing a win heading into tough matchups in week six. The Tigers managed to come out on top.
The Kirksville volleyball team was back at home on Thursday for a tough matchup against conference foe Hannibal. The Tigers were looking for their first win over the Pirates since the 2019 season, but will have to wait a little longer. Hannibal picked up a 3-0 win on Thursday and have now won the last eight matchups. Kirksville fell back to .500 at 5-5 with the loss while Hannibal improved to 10-3.
We are now entering the final few weeks in the regular season for the local high school softball teams. Some will be looking to extend their high level of play into the postseason while others will be looking to hit their stride at the right time.
