2023 Recruiting/Hello: James Turner

Michigan asked the portal for a kicker and lo the portal has provided, as Saline native son James Turner announced he's transferring back home after a solid career at Louisville. Thankful for my time at Louisville the last 4 years. Excited for this opportunity at the University of Michigan. GO BLUE! @UMichFootball James Turner (@jamesturner004) April 28, 2023 Turner has been Louisville's kicker since the 2020 season, when he was named All-ACC honorable mention (13/15, long 50) for the first time. The second time was 2022 (20/22, long 48). The in-between 2021 season he was 14/22 with a long of 46 and a couple of missed extra points. But don't be scared; #CollegeKickers can happen to anybody! Since we're already into the 2023 recruiting posts I'm going to make this a profile/hello Frankenarticle.   Louisville transfer (HS: Saline, MI) – 6'0"/205       [via Twitter] Kornblue: not rated Kohl's nope Chris Sailer       5-star 5 (of 6),

2023 Recruiting: Brandyn Hillman

Hello. I forgot to mention with the first one that this is an annual series profiling Michigan's incoming recruiting class. It's not with Hillman, but in most of these cases there's been a year or more of new information since the Hello post. It's also very useful for referencing biographical facts and the pre-playing career consensus on all these guys. You read them because it's the offseason. A note on "YMRMFSPA": this stands for "you may remember me from such players as." It's not supposed to be a projection of how good a player will be, but rather who he'll remind you of in the event he works out. The players we use as comparisons all worked out. To use Brian's now very dated example: "I can't compare someone to Avery Horn because I don't know what Avery Horn played like." Previously: Last year’s profiles. Senior highlight is just 47-yarder vs Pioneer and a game-winning prayer. 49-yarder at Army Bowl and 60-yarder in practice. 63-yarder. Hudl. By convention we do these writeups in reverse order of the usual position lineup, but in this case it makes sense to start with the first guy in the class. While the rest of the 2023 class came together after Michigan started beating Ohio State, Samaha pledged in final days of the miserable streak that preceded it. When his classmates showed up to the Big House barbecue to get their first impressions of Ann Arbor, Samaha was manning th

27 Tickets to Team 144: Post-Bowl Edition

Michigan's NFL draft decisions all seem to be in. Cornelius Johnson, Michael Barrett, and Kris Jenkins confirmed they're returning. So did Jim Harbaugh. Seems like a good day to check in on the state of the football roster. What is this? Folks who cover the USMNT drop lists like this projecting the 23 guys who end up on the next World Cup team. Brian appropriated it, dropped it for a few years, and then I stole it from him. Regarding the number of tickets: typically its’ 22 starters on offense and defense + 2 kickers + a Flex TE/Slot + nickel + extra DL. This year we have a K/P so I used the extra spot on a 6th OL. Previously: Spring 2022, Post-Bowl 2022. DEPARTURES IN ORDER OF SIGNIFICANCE 1. C Olu Oluwatimi (out of eligibility). Won Outland and Rimington Awards, centered Joe Moore-winning OL. 2. DE Mike Morris (NFL). Only DL who could get solid pass-rush. Great run defender. Badly hampered/missed after rolled ankle late vs Nebraska. 3. NT Mazi Smith (NFL). Stalwart nose,
