Dallas City Council District 2: Sana Syed
A number of strong candidates are standing to replace council member Adam Medrano, leaving due to term limits. Of those running, Sana Syed stands out as most prepared to raise up all areas of District 2. From Oak Lawn to the Cedars to East Dallas, the V-shaped district includes some of the city’s greatest assets and some of its most serious social and economic challenges.

Early voting begins on run-off elections for Dallas City Council Six council seats are still to be decided.
Courtesy photo May 24 is the first day of early voting for a run-off election that will decide the fate of six city council races in Dallas. The run-off follows an election that took place on May 1, in which all 14 city council seats were on the table. Eight seats were decided; these six remain undecided. The date of the runoff election is June 5. Early voting extends from May 24-June 1. The seats still TBD are as follows:

The campaigns for two Dallas City Council candidates are trying to put their respective opponents’ tax records in the spotlight heading into early voting for the June 5 runoff elections. And, well, here’s some spotlight. In addition, I’m going to try and shine it on some important context in both cases.
Have two candidates for City Council Gay Donnell Willis and Jesse Moreno at some point in the last decade had tax liens placed on property they own or owned because of tax issues? After talking to one candidate directly and to the other’s tax attorney, the short answer is “yes, but…” In each case, this is a very significant “but…” and a longer answer is required.
Races for six Dallas City Council seats are headed to runoffs this summer. Residents will be able to cast their vote in June to decide who will represent them in Districts 2, 4, 7, 11, 13 and 14. Council members in 2, 11 and 14 have met their term limits, meaning new faces will take all of those seats.
District 2
In District 2, voters will choose between former park board member Jesse Moreno and Sana Syed, an ex-Dallas city spokeswoman and current executive at a real estate investment firm. Moreno has the endorsement of Adam Medrano, the district’s incumbent. The winner will be the first person in 16 years to represent the district who doesn’t belong to the Medrano family. Jesse Moreno’s wife, Monica Moreno, however, is a member of Medrano’s city staff.
