against donald trump early. when they say national strategy, look at where they re putting the ad buys. they re putting them across the country. yes, states that benefit him in the primary, but also states that are going to benefit him if he makes it to the general election. and we know that the crux of bloomberg s argument is that he s someone who wants to take it to trump as early and often as possible. yesterday when we were in virginia the thing he kept saying over and over again, is that the reason that he s running is because he thinks that he knows how to beat president trump. that doesn t make him unique in this field. a lot of other candidates are saying that. but it s going to be a true test if money can buy you love in this democratic primary. thanks for that. with me now here in studio, democratic strategist who worked on mayor bloomberg s 2009 re-election campaign and matt welch, editor at large. what do you make of this strategy? you have an idea of how he thinks. thi
dana: the former new york city mayor trying to start his candidacy with a massive ad buy. over $30 million to influence voters in key primary states and the company he founded bloomberg news caused controversy per the news outlets as it ll continue their tradition of not investigating bloomberg, his family, foundation, and will do the same with other democratic candidates. president trump is not off-limits. going to continue to cover him. can get into all of this. juan, can i go to you first? what is the constituency for a bloomberg run? juan: you have a lot in the donor class on the democratic side, wall street side who historically backed hillary clinton and are externally nervous about elizabeth warren. they were in apoplexy. they thought, if elizabeth warren gets it, what

one of the things. so you mentioned the bombardment is not good enough of a word, something that he s doing on tv. all of this money into ad buys. there has been some criticism about the money that he s planning to spend here. do you think he could use his fortune elsewhere better to help the causes he supports? is there a better way to spend the cash? i think the answer to that in a lot of ways is yes. i mean, as a democrat, as a partisan, as the vice chair of new york state party, i don t want more people entering the race. i don t want mike bloomberg, i don t want governor duval to enter the race. i want people to be narrowing and focusing and affirming the quality of the great field we have. so when you look at it that way, i say yes. but i also think we need to be very fair to mike bloomberg that he has spent much of his fortune, much on great causes, from guns to climate change, to health care. really the decrease in smoking
