New South Wales will not treat its borders like a light switch 08/01/2021|6min
Acting Premier John Barilaro has confirmed NSW will not treat its border like a light switch, resisting pressure to close the state to Queensland in a knee-jerk reaction after it was announced Greater Brisbane would enter a three-day lockdown. At no point during this pandemic have we ever had a knee-jerk reaction or treated the border like a light switch, he said. What we do is work with our counterparts, offer support, because whatever happens in Queensland impacts New South Wales and any other state.
Mr Barilaro noted while borders would not be closed, restrictions would apply to those travelling to NSW from selected locations in and around Greater Brisbane during the infection period since 12:01 AM on January 2.
Residents in the council areas of Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Moreton Bay and Redlands are required to stay at home until 6pm Monday except for essential reasons, while masks will also be mandated for people leaving home.

One new virus case detected in NSW NSW is investigating a positive coronavirus case recorded this morning after recording an astonishing result despite large numbers of testing.
Health by Anton Nilsson 7th Jan 2021 11:19 AM NSW health authorities are investigating a positive coronavirus test result recorded around 10am on Thursday morning. The case was detected just an hour before the press conference at 11am. The person who was infected resides in the Avalon suburb on Sydney s northern beaches, where a large COVID-19 outbreak began in mid-December. That cluster caused authorities to lock the northern part of the area down, with a plan to lift that restriction on Saturday.
