Two friends appear in court for murder of elderly KZN farm dweller
The 74-year-old tuckshop owner was at his home at Holmbosch Farm in KZN when the two friends allegedly attacked and killed him.
Two friends, Nhlanhla Mhlongo, 22 and Sakhile Cele, 25, appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court in KZN for the alleged robbery and murder of a tuckshop owner and farm dweller. The pair have been remanded in custody until 23 February 2021 for a bail application.
Detectives managed to arrest the two friends on Sunday 14 February 2021 at the Doringkop area in KwaDukuza.
ASSAULTED, STRANGLED AND STABBED
It is alleged that on 6 February 2021, a 74-year-old tuckshop owner by the name of Goberdhan Sahadew was at his home at Holmbosch Farm when the two suspects attacked him.
Office of the Provincial Commissioner KwaZulu-Natal DURBAN –Nhlanhla Mhlongo (22) and Sakhile Cele (25) appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court for the robbery and murder of a tuckshop owner and were remanded in custody until 23 February 2021 for a bail application. KwaDukuza Detectives arrested the two friends on Sunday, 14 February 2021 at Doringkop area in KwaDukuza. It is alleged that on 06 February 2021, a tuckshop owner Goberdhan Sahadew (74) was at his home at Holmbosch Farm when the two suspects attacked him. They locked the door, assaulted, strangled and stabbed the victim once on the chest. They took his cellphones, shotgun, cash and other items and drove away in his vehicle. The vehicle was later found abandoned not far from the crime scene. Customers who found Sahadew’s lifeless body had spotted the bloodstains outside the yard and informed the police
Nine suspected carjacking syndicate members have been arrested
Nine people, including two women, have been arrested as police have bust a syndicate in far Northern KwaZulu-Natal.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele, said there had been an outcry in the uMkhanyakude District north of Richards bay after a gang was robbing people from within KZN and outside the province after asking them to do jobs at their homes in the Emanguzi area. The Acting KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Major General Thulani Gonya commended the members for the arrest of the suspects who have been terrorising the community in Emanguzi and its surrounding areas.
