at this from pure numbers would say how, with a republican controlled house, where are they going to find the middle ground on this because immigration has been something that congress just has not been able to get done in decades, really. yeah, i mean there is a couple of things. first kevin mccarthy has his own problems and we ll see if he becomes the speaker or not. republicans are in complete disarray in getting their leadership house in order. there are republicans in the congress that are interested in immigration reform. they are hearing from her business community, they re hearing from the labor shortages across the country, agriculture and so there is a group of republicans that want to work on immigration. number two, we have to work every single day to win back in the house in 2024. we were in a much stronger position than people thought they would be and we ll win back, we only have a handful of seats to win and we re going to win back the house in 2024. we re going to ge
citizenship for people that are here, that is not supporting dreamers or folks that served in the military. that is not superintendenting any not supporting a path to citizenship. so it is our hope to push the caucus to ensure that we get immigration done and we re going to fight every single day to uplift and remind people this country is built as a country of migrants. and so let s talk immigration for a second. because kevin mccarthy who is the most likely incoming house speaker, has been cleared that this new majority is going zero in on the department of homeland security alejandro mayorkas and has called for his resignation and haven t ruled out the uncertain of title 42 and is going to stay in place. many say congress has to act. i hear you saying congress has to act to do something about immigration. but, a cynic, something looking
there is a growing sentiment that there is time to act on immigration. the time is now. house and latino democrats those coming in are committed to that. and you also have mentioned that one of your top priorities is going to be protecting democracy and my colleague dana bash asked outgoing republican congressman adam kinzinger about the future of american democrat and he said in the short-term he s fearful. let s listen to what he said. we re in a moment where facts don t really matter. what matters to people are just what you re opinion is and the facts that comport to that matter. we re in a moment where about half of the country believes that the election was stolen. maybe a third of the country now believes the election was stolen. but if you re in a democracy and you believe that your vote doesn t count, that is dangerous. and so the question is how do you change that? if it is if you have a third of the country, as he s saying
