i wonder if you re a journalist and you pick up the phone and say hello, ceo, do you want to chat? they would run a mile. how did you do it? i think a lot want to sea change. they re not unhappy with the company per se, but they re unhappy with the decisions made by the top leaders, mark zuckerberg and such. a lot of people weren t willing to talk to us. we had to dig and dig and dig, many of them felt compelled to talk to us, especially last year, when there is so much to turmult. they were seeing president trump test the site. test policies, cross lines in policies and ethics. they want to see change. facebook has this narrative.

might call the eisenhower factor to say the modern times few people other than colin powell whose appeal transcended party in a lot of ways, whose credibility with the public was such that either political party would have been perfectly happy to have him as a leader if not the presidential nominee. you know? he was heavily pressured to run for president in 1996. right. republicans wanted him to go up against bill clinton. bill clinton believe me would have that have the one person he was most afraid of as an opponent is colin powell because colin powell is not a party figure or seen in that light but as an american leader, an american hero, figure, soldier, statesman in a way that really did cross lines in a time when the society is so driven by polarized feelings and ideology.

seen as such a momentous possibility. and that he was the only one who could do it because he, in fact, did cross lines. because he didn t come across as a partisan. he was a republican, but also somebody that was mentioned, talked about affirmative action and talked about abortion rights. and i think he had some social views that were on the more appealing to democrats than some of his fellow republicans. but he crossed lines. he just had an appeal that wasn t like any other politician of his era. and i think because he wasn t really a politician in the same sense of those who would run for office, he was able to sort of reach out with his own personal stories, his own personal biography, his toughness, his magnetism, the sense of maturity that he brought to any public service engagement. the sense of service to country. he had served in vietnam. he had given his life to serving his country and i think that appealed to a lot of people. and how much he did to
