it s not even the only pending case involving trump in th state of new york. at some point this coming week donald trump is expected t travel back to new york from florida to be deposed in relation to a civil lawsui filed by the new york attorney general, letitia james last september, james filed 250 million dollar lawsuit against trump, his three eldes children, and the trum organization, accusing them of fraudulent business practices. in an earlier deposition for james s investigation last summer, trump refused to answe most questions, pleading the fifth more than 400 times. then, on april 25th of thi year, just 16 days from now, a trial is scheduled to begin in one of the two civil lawsuit that been filed against trum by the author and columnist, e jean carroll a few years ago, carol published a book in which sh accused the former president o raping her in the dressing roo of a luxury manhatta department store in the mi 1990s. trump denied careles accusations, saying they
nature you say, it is easier not to have to think about it, yo just paid for yourself you know, it s the better rule to take because then you don t get into these gray areas, about does this fall withi some kind of exception now, that is to be above reproach but should a supreme court justice not be above reproach? i think that s the questio here again, it s a standard o conduct, not necessarily a rul or a law in california, you have something that is akin t addressing this issue of wha hospitality is i mean, i never thought i d be discussing what is in what i in hospitality but there are, you interpret this in certain way. hospitality is, for instance,? what would qualify as acceptin hospitality not a gift yeah, i think every judge i the country, i think falls under some code of ethics, probably with the exception of the supreme court. but, so, these, i went back an read the california judicial code of ethics
and it sets a 250 dollar limit on gifts that you can except from any single source and what they re talking about really, they re talking about, you go to somebody s house they offer you, you know, they treat everybody to a steak dinner with a fine wine is something that, that you know, you re not going to have t disclose that on an official form but when i say the exception sometimes follows the rule when you have here sort of travel and leisure type trip being paid for, i really don t think when you re talking abou $100 or 250 dollar limits that these exorbitant types o travel is really what was in the minds of the drafters of those laws or the ones who gav exceptions for hospitality they weren t really thinking about those kinds of trips carol, thank you, as always we appreciate your time. caroline is a former superio court judge in san diego county, california and is an msnbc legal analyst. all, right after the break,
