the opioid abuse problem in your state and many others is catastrophic. don t you think it would have been a better idea to have public hearings rather than to have done so much of this behind closed doors? why did that happen? you know, i think we ve talked about it so much in terms of the last seven years in terms of what s going wrong with the program. i don t have an opposition to public hearings, but i think in order you could see how difficult it s been with the only public document that came out last week to try to weave the balance. and i think leader mcconnell really has worked with all of us in a very open forum to try to figure out and all of us, i mean republicans, all of us to try to figure out the best way or the pressure points that we feel. and so i think now we see where we are. we re sort of at a stalemate right now that s trying to be broken through whether that can be done, i think we ll find out tomorrow.
and abuse problem. people will point to fraud and abuse rather than answer the difficult questions. the times shoes democratically who is getting what and how to check up on them and raises the question of how good the system is. you are helping them on a personal consumer level. how does that type of a organization or lack thereof impact as a whole and how do we know what it costs? in general spending will go up. but you are right. people are asking more personal questions and they are not worried about the system as a whole but wondering how it pertains to them. and the big question is for the new enrollees will they spend more or less? one thing important to note,
shootings, same formula, we knew they were troubled, they wouldn t take their meds, we couldn t get them help. why is it so hard to control someone who can t control themselves. one of the challenges that families know well in america, when you have someone who s a young male in the family, one of your great obstacles is the denial of your son that he needs help. and for families, your greatest risk are folks who may have a psychiatric illness, in this case quite possibly depression, coupled with a chemical abuse problem. studies about who s at greatest risk have actually shown those who have mental illness who also have a chemical abuse problem are at greatest risk and the people who are threatened the most are those who are intimate family. so mr. deeds would have been at a high risk at a high risk himself and then we ask, what happened with someone who went to an emergency room?
