Feb 24, 2021
Scores of fighters were killed earlier this week following a fierce battle between the Abubakar Shekau-led Boko Haram group and IS West Africa Province at a border area between Nigeria and the Niger Republic.
The Nigerian Public Relations Officer, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, in a statement, said, “Jama’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihad, commonly known as Boko Haram, killed Islamic State West Africa Province insurgents in the village of Sunawa on the Nigeria-Niger border.” Yerima added, “The battle occurred after ISWAP abducted dozens of women linked to Boko Haram.”
Boko Haram terrorists have killed Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in Sunawa village, a border area with the Niger Republic, according to Al Thabat, an al-Qaida-affiliated media outfit.
In a statement yesterday in Maiduguri, Al Thabat, disclosed that the battle occurred after ISWAP abducted dozens of Boko Haram women. x
“Boko Haram fighters subsequently attacked the ISWAP border base and rescued their women from captivity,” it added.
The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig-Gen. Mohammed Yerima, disclosed this yesterday in Maiduguri, Borno State.
“ISWAP broke off from the Abubakar Shekau-led Boko Haram in 2016. Since then, a bitter war of attrition and violent confrontations have been occurring between the factions of terror,” Yerima said.
