The government requested Tower Semiconductor to revise its proposal for a chip fab unit. The government seeks the Israeli company to collaborate with a technology partner boasting superior chip-making capabilities and the ability to manufacture using more advanced processes.
Tower Semiconductor: The electronics and information technology ministry wants companies to keep the 28 nm node for chip fabrication as the “baseline” and then move up the value chain to advanced nodes, according to officials.
If Tower’s proposal comes through, it would be the first semiconductor company with real fabrication pedigree to apply for India’s $10 billion chip manufacturing scheme, and could be a big boost to New Delhi’s chipmaking ambitions.
