Election 2020 electoral violence will not be swept under carpet — Kan-Dapaah

705 The National Security Minister-designate, Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah, has assured Ghanaians that the shooting incidents that were witnessed at some electoral collation centres leading to the loss of seven lives in the 2020 elections, will not be swept under the carpet. He said the security agencies were committed to getting to the root of the incidents and had, therefore, made some arrests as part of their investigation. Mr Kan-Dapaah said this when he took his turn at the Appointments Committee of Parliament last Wednesday to answer questions as part of his vetting for the ministerial position. He was the second minister-designate to take the hot seat, the first being the Minister-designate for Health, Mr Kwaku Agyeman-Manu.

Court adjourns Ablekuma Central election shooter case to February 15 Listen to article An Accra Circuit Court has adjourned the case involving a journalist who was shot during the 2020 general elections at Ablekuma Central to February 15, 2021. The suspect, Collins Quarcoo, also known as Kola, was arraigned for allegedly shooting Pius Asiedu Kwanin, a journalist with the Newswatch Ghana online portal, in the leg, and injuring some other persons at the Ablekuma Central Collation Centre on December 8, 2020. The hearing of the case has been adjourned on several occasions largely due to the inability of the presiding judge, Emmanuel Essandoh, to show up in court as a result of ill health.

Court adjourns Ablekuma Central election shooting case to January 18

  An Accra Circuit Court has adjourned the shooting case at Ablekuma Central during the election on December 7, to January 18. The court had earlier remanded Collins Quarcoo over the alleged shooting incidence at the Ablekuma Central Collation Centre during December 7, 2020, polls. The adjournment was because the Court did not sit on Monday, January 11, when the case was to be heard. Quarcoo, who allegedly shot and caused harm to three persons, pleaded not guilty. He denied the use of the offensive weapon (a Smith and Wesson SD9V 9MM pistol) and causing harm to Pious Asiedu Kwanin, a Journalist, Inspector Nixon Awuni, a Police Officer, and Rashid Umar, a trader.
