A 35-year-old man in Mumbai has been sentenced to four years' rigorous imprisonment in six different cases of chain snatching. The accused, Shekhar Shinde, targeted women wearing gold chains on Sundays when they were out with their families. He stole a total of 66 grams of gold worth around Rs 4.10 lakh. The sentencing aims to deter other criminals and send a message to society.
The convicted men have been in custody since 2018 after their arrest for the offence. Their sentence will be deducted for the time they have spent in prison.
